Hidden Hollow '07

Mark Friedman
Meet Mark Friedman. He's an an Information Technology Executive in the
Insurance industry who's been active in amateur astronomy since about
1988. One of Mark's most influential mentors in his astronomy career
has been Bill Herbert (mirror making), Ron Ravneberg (telescope making,
observing and books), and Bob Bunge (observing). His first telescope was
a self- constructed 6" dob, right down to the mirror which took around a
year to complete. It was our great honor for this particular telescope
to see first light at Hidden Hollow in 1989... and to have its first
views shared with none other than David Levy!
Mark has also made several mirrors and built several dobs, and is most
used dob todayis a 10" f5.6. Even with everything the hobby of
astronomy has to offer, what he enjoys the most is visual obseving -
deep sky and solar eclipses. As a member of the Columbus Astronomical
Society, he has served over the years in several capacities including
trustee. He
also collects meteorites, plays ice hockey and curls (yes, the olympic
sport on ice). A Star Party fan? You know it. Mark's favorite star
party is the Winter Star Party. Why? Who wouldn't want to spend every
February in the Florida Keys where the seeing is incredible!
Be sure to join him at "Mark and Marlene*s Incredible Eclipse Journey" -
a presentation on the March 29, 2006 total solar eclipse event he
observed from Libya. You'll enjoy the travelogue recounting their voyage
from Genoa to Sicily to Egypt to Libya to Malta and more. Look forward
to a multimedia presentation with photos, videos, and music!
