Hidden Hollow 2010

Ssssh... It's A Silent Auction!

Because of economic times and direct competition against other Star Parties, we weren't able to get as many astronomy supply vendors at this year's Hidden Hollow as we'd like. But, sometimes change can be a very good thing! Instead of offering the same array of eyepieces, telescopes, cases, binoculars and accessories you see at 'em all - here's something you won't see at any Star Party anywhere...

A Silent Auction!

This isn't a hodgepodge of telescope "stuff"... You'll find that at the Swap Meet. The Silent Auction is all about true antiques and collectibles - things like you'd find in a museum or in a private collection. There's a very good reason for that, too... Because that's where they came from - a private collection. Here you will find rare antiquarian astronomy books, vintage periodicals, philatelic works of art, NASA collectibles, history pieces, International Year of Astronomy memorabilia and much, much more...

Here's how it works... As I list each item, I will place it here on this page for your advance review along with a description and a reserve price. The modest reserve reflects either exactly how much I have invested in each item or what I cannot let it go for less from my private collection. During Hidden Hollow, all Silent Auction items will be on display for you to thoroughly examine and enjoy. Many of these pieces are far more than a century old and incredibly rare - it is my pleasure to share them with you. There are other pieces that cannot be replaced, just as there are some very fun things you may wish to add to your own collection! If you want to participate in the auction, simply sign your name on the sheet beside a number and that will become your bidder number. Each item displayed will have a discreet card accompanying it stating its reserve price. Should you wish to bid on that item, simply turn the card over to view any current bids, list your bid and add your bidder number. At the end of the day, the winners will be announced and the high bid wins.

Where will the money go? Relax. I'm not in this to make a profit. My goal is to share some wonderful old antiques, trivia and collectibles with you that you won't find anywhere else. At the end of the sale, I will be delighted to simply get my investment back, share what I've found and pass the pleasure of these items on to you. The whole aim of the Silent Auction is to have a unique experience and some fun! Anything collected over reserve price will be 100% donated to Astronomy Outreach Educational materials to be shared by everyone.

Even if you choose not to participate in the Silent Auction, I certainly hope that you'll stop by the display and enjoy this one-of-a-kind display! Enjoy them here by clicking on the image for a "bigger picture". Without further ado, here they are...

NOTE: I am currently building up the Hidden Hollow website and have several items left from last year. It was a wonderful success and I cannot thank you enough for your support! Please be patient and I will begin listing the 2010 Silent Auction items soon!

Keep checking back as there is much, much more to come!! There will be many other historical items on display and you are welcome to donate items to the Silent Auction as well. If you have a serious collectible that you would like to place into the auction for bids, we will gladly post it with your reserve and the understanding that any money made above your reserve price will be donated to WRO Outreach Programs. If you wish to have an item placed, please send me a photo, description and reserve price. If you cannot attend Hidden Hollow and you wish to place a bid on any of the items you see listed here, please feel free to contact me.
